Growing up, I had access to my parent’s complete collection of National Geographic magazines dating back to the late 1800s. In the days before the internet, many of my school assignments were researched in the pages of this publication and I dreamt of traveling to the far away places captured by the breathtaking photography. I went on to study photography at Cornell and even worked briefly at the Ansel Adams Center in San Francisco. My first full-time job out of college was with a newspaper and I dabbled in journalism; first with the paper, then on special assignments with a windsurfing magazine.

I did not end up pursuing a career in commercial or fine art photography and instead shifted my interest to design work. But my designs are influenced by the compositional skills I learned through photography, and often incorporate exceptional photography as a background or counterpoint for my design and typography.

Photography remains one of my great loves. I still enjoy chasing the light; looking for that perfect composition, that image worth a thousand words.
